Tea Towel
Tea towel’s longevity and interesting history influenced preservation of present and future. They can be used with the finest glassware and chinaware. Able to keep tea pots drip less and warm, baked goods, breads, rolls warm and fresh, decorative addition with formal dining or spruce up daily decor. A lovely gift that is strong enough to adhere to daily use and become more soft and absorbent with use.
Materials used were originally made from flax plant fibers. The arduous process is very time consuming prior to the weaving stage that also can be difficult for a beginner weaver. The results for a recipient or weaver are very rewarding.
Historically, woman of the house would embroider, employ her solidarity use only. Servants were not allowed use these towels to clean or dry fine china. Tea Towels were so intricate that these delights have been passed down to the next generation without fear of use. Linen fiber was less expensive in the past prooves the quality supersedes the test of time in many cases. Linens was also used for clothing, aprons and more. Today linen is highly sought after with a hefty price tag attached. This fiber has been replaced with the highest quality of cotton available at this time achieving more absorbency when used.
Van Gogh had used these beauties as his canvas for a decorative item to help him financially. Today tea towels are not as popular since they have been replaced with paper towels. Tea towels can help brighten your home and are an interesting conversation piece.
Handmade on one of my smaller antique loom. Wash separately in cool water with mild soap, by hand air dry. Do not use fabric softeners or bleach. Can roll in a towel to absorb water and reduce possible blocking. Light touch of iron if needed.
