Coverlet “Lee’s Surrender”
Handmade on of my smaller antique loom as tradition depicts. Woven in two pieces and hand sewn together to create the width of choice. Dates to the 16th Century found in a local town in Kirby Knob, KY. Assuming the pattern was brought here from European settlers. No further dating has been confirmed. In the 17th Century, the name was given to this pattern, “Lee’s Surrender”, representing Robert E Lee’s surrender at Appomatox to Ulysses S Grant at the time of the Civil War. Wash in cool water with mild soap, delicate cycle or by hand, air dry only. Do not use fabric softeners or bleach. Can roll in a towel to absorb water and reduce possible blocking. Light touch of iron if needed.
